OpenBMB released Trident-Qwen3VL-2B on October 12, 2026, a MIT-licensed multimodal embedder fine-tuned from Qwen3-VL-2B-Instruct that ranks text-only, image-only and fused documents together while targeting modality preference.
Sperid Labs has released Iris-3B, a 3-billion-parameter text-to-image transformer that generates directly in pixel space, along with depth and restoration fine-tunes, training code and an Apache 2.0 license. The accompanying paper reports no significant downstream gain from the pixel-space prior.
Developer Nandakishor M has released Vega under Apache 2.0, a typed decision model that keeps a Qwen3.5-0.8B backbone frozen and trains only a small physics engine whose damped particle settles into one valley per allowed answer, returning calibrated probabilities and an abstain flag.
LightOn has released LightOnOCR-3 in 0.8B, 1B and 4B sizes under Apache 2.0, adding a grounding mode that returns labeled bounding boxes, chart data as HTML tables and short image descriptions alongside page transcription.
On October 8, 2026, Hugging Face Bio released Carbon-A, a 1.2B-parameter MIT DNA annotation model, and a Carbon Annotation Database covering 48,167 assemblies with hundreds of millions of predicted protein-coding loci.
JetBrains released Mellum2.1 on October 8, 2026, an Apache 2.0 12B mixture-of-experts coding model with 2.5B active parameters. Post-training in real repositories lifts SWE-bench Verified from 2.0% on Mellum2 to 47.0% under a shared agent harness.
DatologyAI open-sourced Zephon, an Apache-2.0 data loader for text and multimodal model training, with its first release on PyPI on October 7, 2026. Zephon keeps the sequence of global batches identical across changes in GPU count, worker parallelism and execution backend, even when data is tokenized, packed and mixed during training.
Google DeepMind released EmbeddingGemma 2 on October 6, 2026, an Apache 2.0 embedding model built on Gemma 4 that maps text, code, images, video, and audio into a single 768-dimensional space. Its encoders load separately, from 270M parameters for text up to 740M for every modality, and it is sized to run on phones.
Obelisk 0.42, released October 4, 2026, splits its AGPL-3.0 workflow engine's policy across platform, app, and deployment files so coding agents can redeploy code without widening their own access. The release also adds native V8 replay, experimental Linux VM activities, and a durable workflow-agent prototype.
On October 1, 2026, Earendil shipped MIT-licensed Pi 1.0 alongside experimental Pi Durable—a TypeScript harness with SQLite/JSONL storage, task checkpoints, forkable conversations, and crash resume—aimed at long-running agents beyond a single terminal session.
On October 3, 2026, Aleph Alpha released Apache-2.0 Kolibri-1—a 78.1B-parameter English–German MoE with 3.46B active, up to 1M-token context, reasoning modes, and tool calling—on Hugging Face with a vLLM plugin.
On October 2, 2026, Ai2 open-sourced Apache-2.0 AstaBrief 8B—the Fast-mode report model in Asta—with training data, a local PDF workflow, and SFT+DPO recipe details grounded in real scientific queries.
On October 2, 2026, the llama.cpp project added /v1/systemone support so open decision models—Julia-1 through OpenJev—can score choice, score, and noul questions from text, JSON, or images without generating chat tokens.
On October 2, 2026, Reka released Apache-2.0 RIDM—compact flow and pixel inverse-dynamics models that predict W/A/S/D/Shift, yaw, and pitch from video so interactive world models can train on unlabeled real footage.
On October 1, 2026, Ai2 released Olmo-core 3—an Apache-2.0 MoE training stack redesigned around DDP expert residency, parallelism, and MXFP8—benchmarked above one trillion total parameters for the next Olmo generation.
On October 1, 2026, Cloudflare released Apache-2.0 Clef and Clef-flash decision models on Workers AI and Hugging Face—Jev-API compatible, multimodal, and tuned for typed workflow choices rather than free-form text.
On September 30, 2026, Bilibili’s Index LLM Team released Index-Translate under Apache-2.0—text models at 2B, 9B, and a 35B-A3B preview spanning 150 languages, plus Echo speech, Homura syllable control, and NativeLong document checkpoints.
